Ulises Solano, tenor, was born in Heredia, Costa Rica. He started his vocal studies when he was 9 years old at the Conservatorio de Castella. After his graduation he went on to study with Amelia Barquero who encouraged him to pursue an operatic career. Ulises then moved to California and later to Indiana where he attended Indiana University School of Music where he received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music and Voice. There he was a student of Giorgio Tozzi. Throughout this singing career Ulises has been heard as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Hoffmann in The Tales of Hoffmann, and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, to name a few. Ulises has performed operas, concerts, and recitals throughout the United States, Austria, Hungry, The Philippines, and Central America.

Aside from singing standard repertory, Ulises has also delved into contemporary "new" music, collaborating with young and living composers in new works. Notably, he premiered the role of Haïmon in John Eaton's "Antigone," and has kept a close collaboration with emerging composer Gilbert Galindo who has written many works for his voice. In New York, Ulises keeps a fast pace career serving as a cantor at St Charles Borromeo Church, teaching general music PreK through 8th through "Education Through Music" in the Bronx, teaching privately in his home studio in Astoria, Queens, and singing recitals and concerts throughout the city.

Ulises did his Lincoln Center debut on June 18th, 2011 at Alice Tully Hall, and will be performing recitals in Ireland February 2012.
